environmental centre

Today we went with my good friend Claire and her children Finn and Reuben to Canterbury environmental centre. Although the weather was slightly dodgy, we had a great time. It is such a lovely and well thought out place to visit for all types of people and interest. It is set in the grounds of the National grid! and around a large pond/ disused quarry and is basically a nature reserve but now extended as an educational centre. We followed a hedgehog trail, finding clues in mailboxes to help us find twigs, and leaves to make different parts of the hedgehog when we returned to the visitors centre.

We then had a picnic - indoors as it was raining. well having a picnic in February is expecting a little too much! After a nice cup of tea, we did some pond dipping, looking for fish. didnt find any of them but we did catch some wiggly things!! The funniest part for me was having to break the ice on the pond to get the net in!!!!
we had a lovely day if somewhat wet but great to get out in the fresh air and do something with nature. it is a brill place to visit, we have been a few times now and nice to see it through all of the seasons. Summer will be lovely here and worth another visit.
